Tennessee has over 60,000 miles of streams and over a half million acres of lake surface. There are more than 1,000 lakes listed in the US Geologicial Survey office's database. The major lakes within 100 miles of Nashville are listed below:


Percy Priest Lake - The lake provides a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities for millions of visitors each year. Because of the temperate climate and relatively long recreation season, visitors have numerous activities to participate in including fishing, hunting, camping, picnicking, boating, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, and more. Because of the lake's proximity to Nashville (15 minutes from downtown) lakeside recreation can fit nicely into your other vacation plans.


Old Hickory Lake - Located near Metropolitan Nashville, Tenn., the lake provides a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities for millions of visitors each year. Because of the temperate climate and relatively long recreation season, visitors have numerous activities to choose from including hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, picnicking, boating, and water skiing. The numerous species of wildlife here, including abundant populations of waterfowl and wading birds, make nature study and photography additional exciting pastimes.


Center Hill Lake - The lake provides varied outdoor recreation opportunities for millions of visitors each year. Because of the temperate climate and relatively long recreation season, visitors have numerous activities to choose from including fishing, hunting, camping, picnicking, boating, canoeing, hiking, and many others. Center Hill belongs to you. Treat our lake and surrounding area with respect by keeping it clean and attractive. Enjoy yourself, have a safe visit, and come again. 


Dale Hollow Lake - Dale Hollow is a vacation destination that borders the Tennessee-Kentucky state line and each year the lake provides recreational opportunities to millions of visitors. Surrounded by a thick expanse of forest, the clear blue lake creates a stunning scenic backdrop for a variety of water and land recreational activities. The temperate climate and relatively long recreation season, allows visitors to have many opportunities to fish, hunt, camp, picnic, boat, canoe, hike, scuba dive, ride horseback, and enjoy the great outdoors.


Cordell Hull Lake - The lake provides a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities for millions of visitors each year. Because of the temperate climate and relatively long recreation season, visitors have numerous activities from which to choose, including fishing, hunting, camping, picnicking, boating, hiking, horseback riding and other numerous ways to enjoy nature. 


Cheatham Lake - The lake provides a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities for millions of visitors each year. Because of the temperate climate and relatively long recreation season, visitors have numerous activities from which to choose, including fishing, hunting, camping, picnicking, boating, canoeing, hiking, and others.


Normandy Lake - Normandy is the largest of the nonpower dams on tributaries of the Tennessee River. It is operated for flood damage reduction, water supply, and recreational opportunities. Normandy also provides water for a fish hatchery immediately downstream.


Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley - It's about fun, family, friends and memories. It's about catching a giant bass or skiing alongside 2300 miles of shoreline. It's about taking time to slow down and enjoy life's simple pleasures. It's about feeling like you really ARE on vacation. It's about Kentucky Lake. Fishing, boating, camping, golf, dining, entertainment and more await you.


Tims Ford Lake - Tims Ford Lake area was extensively used by the American Indians for hunting and fishing and is thought to be one of the most picturesque lakes in Tennessee. You can choose from many lake activities such as boating, fishing, swimming, camping and more.  


Nickajack Lake - The reservoir offers wide expanses of water and spectacular scenery of the Tennessee River Gorg, known as the Grand Canyon of Tennessee. Boat-launching ramps and fishing berms are located on both sides of the tiver below the dam, and a concrete fishing pier with footbridges and wheelchair ramp is available. TVA camping and picnicking facilities are also available.


Cumberland River - The river is a major waterway of the Southern United States. The 688-mile (1,107 km)-long river drains almost 18,000 square miles (47,000 km2) of southern Kentucky and north-central Tennessee. The river flows generally west from a source in the Appalachian Mountains to its confluence with the Ohio River near Paducah, Kentucky, and the mouth of the Tennessee River. Major tributaries include the Obey, Caney Fork, Stones, and Red Rivers.


Tennessee River - The river is the largest tributary of the Ohio River. It is approximately 652 miles (1,049 km) long and is located in the southeastern United States in the Tennessee Valley. The river was once popularly known as the Cherokee River, among other names, as many of the Cherokee had their territory along its banks, especially in eastern Tennessee and northern Alabama. Its current name is derived from the Cherokee village.

America's Boating Club's Vessel Safety Inspectors are eager to inspect your boat anytime during the boating season for FREE.
